Twitter Turns 6 and we are counting characters

140 characters to be exact (the maximum number of characters allowed in a Tweet.)   Twitter just turned 6.  Happy Birthday Twitter!

As mentioned here, reTweets are something new this year.  I truly enjoy searching for the Tweets to use in the reTweets because every now and again I find a gem.  140 characters of cleverness and humor.  For example:

You can check out all the new reTweets on our Facebook page in the reTweets photo album.

If you get a chance to come to CraftBoston at the Seaport World Trade Center in Boston, come see us in Booth 240.  And if you are feeling lucky participate in CraftBoston’s 2012 Spring Raffle  — one of the ten pieces being raffled is from ArtHead Studio.  We mentioned it here and talked about the inspiration for The Odd World of The Littles.

This is going on your permanent record

Yesterday I revealed my obsession with all things little.

In addition to The Odd World of the Littles, 2012 brings with it another new body of work titled reTweets.

Last year the Library of Congress announced that it was going to archive all Tweets.  Yup, you read that right.  Remember when you were a child and you heard those familiar words “This is going on your permanent record.”?  Well it now appears that your 140 characters really are going to be on your permanent record.

I do not personally have a Twitter account, but was somewhat intrigued by the decision to save all Tweets.  Who cares that someone had a ham sandwich for lunch?  So many Tweets are useless drivel that, in my opinion, don’t warrant being archived.  I decided that there must be some gems in and amongst all the drivel.  As I began to search for interesting Tweets, I found that there are some really clever people out there.  People who were able to convey an idea with humor in 140 characters or less.  I wanted to archive clever Tweets in my own way.  And thus came reTweets.

Are you gonna Tweet about this post?

“One should never make one’s debut with a scandal. One should reserve that to give an interest to one’s old age.”  –Oscar Wilde

So today is the first day of our first show of 2012 and so far so good…no scandal.  We are in Baltimore at the American Craft Council Show and we are debuting three new lines of work.

reTweets

Last year the Library of Congress decided to digitally archive all Tweets. I don’t personally use Twitter, but wanted to discover if there was anything actually worth archiving on Twitter and as it turns out, there was. And that is how reTweets came into being.

If you are in the Baltimore area, stop by the convention center (we are in booth 3602) and see the new work. It’s a great show with a lot of spectacular work.
