When I am working in my studio the TV is always on. Recently I have become obsessed with The Great Food Truck Race on the Food Network. Imagine how happy I was when I found out that Team Roxy were going to be in the exact same place that I was — the SOWA Open Market.
Last weekend, our friend, Kenny Mac, was participating in the South End Open Studios and we had plans to go to the SOWA Open Market before we made our way over to his studio. We eagerly waited for the announcement about which food trucks would be at the SOWA Open Market and late on Friday night we knew for sure that Roxy’s Gourmet Grilled Cheese would be there. And just when we thought it couldn’t get better we learned that Grilled Cheese Nation (GCN) would be there too!
On Sunday morning we headed into Boston. We parked the car and walked over to Harrison Ave. From afar we saw the bright orange GCN truck and as we rounded the corner we saw the familiar yellow Roxy’s truck. Now the question was whether to get the much anticipated grilled cheese from GCN or Roxy’s. So we decided on both. From Roxy’s we tried a Mighty Rib Melt and a Mushroom Melt and for Jil, who is a grilled cheese purist – it was The Boston Common from Grilled Cheese Nation. Nobody was left disappointed.
The only disappointment was that after having grilled cheese we didn’t have it in us to try what was sure to be a delicious salted caramel cupcake from The Cupcakory! It just means we will have to make another Sunday trip to the city to sample some other delicious food truck delicacies.
We are so thankful that food trucks have come a long way from the “Roach Coach” that used to pull up behind our office years ago. What’s your favorite food truck?
